40sCromarty is dedicated to producing multiplatform content, from narrative films to documentaries. As media platforms and entertainment genres converge, 40sCromarty will convey the frontier of the human experience. As the great Stephen King said, imagination is free. That’s the creative spirit underpinning 40sCromarty, backed by a pragmatic and resourceful approach to content creation.

About me

I’m Alexander Clare, founder of 40sCromarty Productions. My short film, Striplight, premiered at the 2018 New York New Filmmakers Festival, and in 2023 I produced and directed a documentary on the ‘Copper Queens,’ the Zambian Women’s football team and their preparations for their first senior World Cup. My short stories have been shortlisted by The Tennessee Williams and New Orleans Literary Festival and by the Bridport Prize.

I studied at the Oxford School of Drama, which nurtures the best actors in the world. (I certainly wasn’t one). I’m also a trained journalist and have been published by the Village Voice and Reuters. I’ve read scripts for Vertigo Films, Agile Films and Slingshot Studios.

I believe in freedom of expression, a free press, and transparency. If there’s an idea good enough to broadcast, let’s do it.

40sCromarty: What's in the name?

I grew up listening to the Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4. This metrological bulletin is poetry. Forties and Cromarty are parts of what Shakespeare would call a wild and wasteful ocean. Give the forecast a listen and let your imagination take over. It’s hilarious hearing people try to pronounce it. Try: Forties Cromarty. Easy right?
